Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects a student’s educational record from being shared with anyone aside from the student. For more information, see Notification of Rights Under FERPA for Post-Secondary Institutions.

To gain access to specific academic information about your student, the student must submit a FERPA Written Consent Authorization for Release of Student Information form (PDF) to every relevant office. Submitting one form to the College, for example, does not allow for release of information by their major department. The student needs to submit this release of information directly to each office via their UC San Diego email account or in person.
