What is First Pass / Second Pass?

Two pass enrollment is a process where students are allowed to book in classes in two separate passes. This process is designed to allow students to more equitably register for classes.

During the first pass, you can book in up to 11.5 units, and you cannot join waitlists for courses during this time. Your first pass booking window is open for two days only.

Once your first-pass booking window has closed, you cannot make changes to your schedule until the second pass opens. In the second pass booking window, you can book the remainder of your courses. You can book a total of 19.5 units, including wait-listed courses, during the second pass up until the first day of instruction (your second pass window does not close).

Starting on the first day of classes, you can book up to 22 units. A request to book more than 22 units needs approval from your College. New students in their first quarter at UC San Diego are not approved to book more than 22 units.
