Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals (Financial Aid)

The Financial Aid & Scholarships office manages all financial aid eligibility for students. Your academic progress is key to continuing to receive financial aid.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is a federal requirement that students must complete a certain number of units and maintain a minimum GPA in order to continue to receive aid. See the Financial Aid website for these SAP specifics.

If you don't meet SAP standards you will lose your financial aid eligibility. If you had extenuating circumstances that prevented you from meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress, you may appeal. In the appeal process, one component is the Undergraduate Academic Plan form.

Academic Plan Form

Step 1: To complete this form, you need to provide a course plan for the next 3 quarters. Financial Aid needs to know exactly how many units you will enroll in each quarter, so your plan should be as accurate as possible. Get guidance on creating your academic plan.

Step 2: Contact your major advisor for their review. See tab 1 of this document - Contacting Academic Advisors for SAP Appeal.

Step 3: After the major advisor returns the form, go visit your College advisors. They will need to sign the form too. See tab 2 of this document - Contacting Academic Advisors for SAP Appeal.

Step 4: Write your appeal statement and gather any documentation you have available that explains your circumstances. Submit these along with the Academic Planning Form through the Financial Aid Document Submission Tool
